What are Probiotics & Prebiotics Good health from the insides out for animals & humans...large & small The term probiotics comes from the Greek meaning "for life". Probiotics are the billions of live (or good) bacteria that work within the digestive system of animals & humans. Around 70% of an animal's & 80% of a human's immune system depends on a healthy gut. So the gut is arguably the body's 'engine'. If or when the ratios of good-to-bad gut bacteria become unbalanced or threatened, using probiotics (or live bacteria) is beneficial to help restore intestinal balance, to help maintain normal digestive health, and thus help the body at its very core, the "engine". Prebiotics are a food source that nourishes the
good 'friendly' bacteria & help them grow more effectively. Live (not dead!) yeasts are
a key part of probiotics for horses, camelids, goats and sheep. Pre & Probiotics are considered a feed supplement, not a drug. Bacteria
& Microflora The community of good/bad bacteria are commonly called 'microflora'.
